I went from not buying SB’s to my next few pickups including a number of them! After that pickup of the Takashi retro, I felt like I had to grab a more modern release. Enter the Nike Dunk Low SB True Berry / Atmosphere Grey.
This shoe released alongside a very similar colorway, replacing the true berry parts of the shoe with a light blue color. The included spare laces are grey.
I copped these over the other colorway (even though these are the less popular release) because I could envision more potential outfits with these. The maroon and obsidian pair well with khaki and light wash denim, while the black and grey makes these work with darker blue and black jeans. You can pair any of this up with a black or dark or light grey top and have a good fit ready to go.
I like maroon / burgundy colorways so these just stood out to me for a new release. I wish Nike SB treated their GRs with a little more reverance regarding materials, but otherwise I think they look great on foot which is what I bought them for!
How Are The Materials?
The materials on these are predictably the least impressive part of the shoe. These aren’t marketed as a premium, and although the materials aren’t awful, they are nothing to write home about. I find the leather to be about the same as the Takashi 1 retros and the suede to be maybe a tick above that. The suede’s not buttery or soft on these, but it’s not quite as rough and rugged as the Taks. Overall I’d buy based on colorway rather than materials.
How Do They Fit?
These Nike Dunk Low SB True Berry have the typical new SB narrowness and are also stiff with a short break in time. They started to feel comfy on foot after wearing them for just a few minutes. I would go true to size and try not to do too much walking around the first few times these are worn until they are softened up a bit. I’m guessing that if you actually skate them, they will probably break in faster.
